Sunday Selection

Kari Blog

Normally, Sunday Selection is meant to be a one-quote or scripture-post, but in honor of our Nation's birthday (and b/c of the way things are going in this country right now), I couldn't help but blog more than one selection today!

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
- Theodore Roosevelt - (1858-1919) 26th President of the United States

"I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever." - Thomas Jefferson, 1871

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason alone, people of other faiths have been afforded freedom of worship here."
- Patrick Henry, Patriot 1776

This last selection is just a neat piece of information I found on a website. If you click on the word "source" at the bottom, it will take you to that website.

The three branches of the U.S. Government:
Judicial, Legislative, Executive

• At the Constitutional Convention of 1787, James Madison proposed the plan to divide the central government into three branches. He discovered this model of government from the Perfect Governor, as he read Isaiah 33:22;

“For the LORD is our judge,
the LORD is our lawgiver,
the LORD is our king;
He will save us.”

Now, more than ever, I'm trying hard to pray for our nation. I LOVE AMERICA--I'm just saddened by the way things are going right now. We Christians really need to pattern our lives after 2 Chronicles 7:14.

America needs healing.
