R-E-S-P-E-C-T

God has a good way of getting my attention. It's almost funny sometimes.

Earlier today I was on the phone with my husband. We were discussing plans for the evening and he brought up his plan, which I really didn't like. You see, it didn't fit with my plans or my desires..that's why I didn't like it. So, I proceeded to try (in a sweet tone, of course) to make him realize that his plans weren't ideal, and that my plans just made better sense.

I try to respect my husband. I know that's what the Bible commands wives to do. It's what makes marriages work--when a man loves his wife, and the wife respects her husband. It's the perfect equation.

Yet, this phone call made me realize I'm not as great at the whole respect thing as I thought I was.

After hanging up with Bob, I got on FB and checked my inbox. A friend of mine had sent me and some other women an excerpt from a book called, "The Honeymoon of Your Lifetime". I read it, and just had to laugh at the irony of the situation. God instantly allowed me to realize that I had just disrespected my husband on the phone (even though I thought I was being practical and sweet).

Really, what I told my husband on the phone was, "Honey, your plan isn't going to work. I want my way and this is how it's going to be done because my way makes more sense." How rude is that!?

The really sad part is that I know I'm guilty of this a lot. I guess it hasn't hit me until now because I'm usually calm and try to talk to him in a loving tone (even though I am still forcing my opinions on him). I'm not allowing him to lead like he should be able to. It's really an ugly habit.

I may not always like the way Bob wants to do things (I'm know he could say the same about me!), but He is the head of our household. He's my husband. He's wonderful. And I love him. He needs to know that I love him, and more importantly, respect him, by allowing him to take the lead. That's how God designed it to be. I don't want to be an overbearing, nagging wife. Yuck. How gross.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T...I think I finally found out what it means to me.

Here's the excerpt taken from,
"The Honeymoon of Your Lifetime"

A wife has a couple of unique roles in the divinely designed marriage. In Ephesians 5:33, the Bible teaches, "The wife must respect her husband." While your husband is supposed to unconditionally love you, you are to unconditionally respect him. Not only is this not easy--its impossible! At least its impossible in your power and strength.
Your man is as divinely designed to respond positively to your unconditional respect and admiration as you are divinely designed to respond to his loving, honoring, nourishing and cherishing care of you.

This isnt a woman-sized job; its a God-sized job.
It requires God's supernatural love.

The woman is to encourage him to provide leadership in your marriage. We also know that women are strong, capable, and talented--of that there's no doubt. But, ladies, a woman who tries to prove these traits by dominating her husband will actually drive him away.
Choose to demonstrate your feminine strength by respecting your husband and encouraging him to lead you and your children. Lift him up when you are with him and speak highly of him when you are with others. Choose to be strong in your support of him--in cheering him on. It's a much more powerful position than it appears.
We could all use a bit more respect, but men cannot live without it--especially from their soul mate.

FOR TODAY...
October 12, 2009

Outside my window...cool, wet, and cloudy.

I am thinking...that I better start dinner soon.

I am thankful for...how Longsuffering God is toward His children. It's one of my favorite attributes of God.

From the kitchen...I'm making Chunky Potato Soup--it's perfect soup weather!

I am wearing...Jeans, Red knit top

I am creating...laundry mountains!

I am going...to serve dinner late if I don't get off the computer!

I am reading...That Certain Spark, but Cathy Marie Hake (almost done!)

I am hoping...that Ethan will stay asleep for a little bit longer so I can get dinner going.

I am hearing...the washer running

Around the house...Laundry..laundry..laundry..the never-ending chore! =)

One of my favorite things...is watching Ethan sleep.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Visit my Grandma, watch
18 Kids and Counting: First GrandDuggar! (I'm overly excited about it!) housework, baking

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

I haven't had this, or any other pop, in probably 2 or 3 months now! I can't believe it! I'm finally starting to get to the point where I don't miss it.

...if only I could give up sweet tea!

Shopped 'Til We Dropped!

Today, my MIL Carol, Ethan and I went shopping--we had a blast!
Ethan is such a great little shopper. He likes to sit up real straight in his stroller and look around at all the neat things in the stores. I think he enjoys all the compliments he receives from the little old ladies, too =)

Our goal for today was to find some crafting pumpkins for a fall topiary my MIL is going to make--and we found 'em! We hit the jackpot at Michael's.

She bought her pumpkins...and of course, we had to get a few other little things--just b/c they were so darn cute.

Next, we headed over to Panera Bread for lunch...I LOVE me some Panera!

Sorry this pic is so blurry,
but I wanted you to see the chocolatey goodness
that I indulged in! Yuummmm...

We left Panera and headed on over to Garden Ridge.

Neither of us had been there in awhile--the store was totally different! There was a huge selection of the cutest children books, so I picked up a few for Ethan.

It was fun looking through all the Christmas decorations--I am SO EXCITED for Christmas this year! I've always loved the holiday, but it seems so much more special now that I have a son =) I think it's because growing up, my parents made Christmas extra special and always memorable. I'm thrilled for me and Bob to be able to start our own Christmas traditions with Ethan this year!

Well, we were so thirsty after all our spending shopping that we had to end our day with a stop at Sonic.

Of course, we took full advantage of the 1/2 price drinks and got ourselves a Route 44! I chugged my Sweet Tea faster than...well...I don't know..but it was fast!

Poor little Ethan was conked out by the time we pulled into the driveway. I put him straight to bed for his nap...shoes and all. I don't think he really cared, though!

Speaking of nap, I may just try to sneak one in...

Monday's "The Simple Woman's Daybook"

Have you come across any blogs that post "The Simple Woman's Daybook" on Mondays? I have, and I really enjoy reading them so I thought I might start filling one out myself.

FOR TODAY...
October 5, 2009

Outside my window...it's cool and cloudy.

I am thinking...about the weather. I sure hope it doesn't storm while I'm out and about today with Ethan and my MIL, Carol! I hate storms!!

I am thankful for...my family. They're an absolute blessing.

From the kitchen...I'll be making Baked Cheese Crepes for dinner and a Buttermilk Pie. Italian and Southern...don't really go together..but oh well!

I am wearing...a purple shirt, pajama pants and socks

I am creating...a festive fall home. I got more decor yesterday! Thanks mom! =)

I am going...to the audiologist today for Ethan's second hearing test. Please pray it goes well!

I am reading...That Certain Spark, but Cathy Marie Hake

I am hoping...that Ethan's hearing test goes very well today...and again, that it doesn't storm while we're out!

I am hearing...my husband laughing. Love it!

Around the house...lots of laundry to do!

One of my favorite things...is sipping on Sweet Tea while reading a good book.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Visit my Grandma; go to Mardel; Financial Peace University at church; babysit my BFF's son, Nathan.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

Sometimes I really miss being pregnant.
Don't get any ideas, though!!

I do like being able to sleep comfortably, touch my toes, and walk without looking like a duck!
But it was so fun knowing a little baby was growing inside of me! Feeling Ethan kick and stretch (and even hiccup!) was amazing.

My Own Snowbaby

I was sort of playing dress up with Ethan the other day (sorry Ethan, I know "dress up" isn't very manly sounding) when I thought, "Hmm...he reminds me of something."
I figured it out--this is what it was:

Do you remember Snowbabies?

Well, I have my own real life Snowbaby...but mine is MUCH cuter, wouldn't you agree?!

Is Ignorance Bliss?

If you read this post, you know I'm Pro-Life. And I'm not ashamed about it.

A couple of years ago, I stumbled across a website called, Abort73.com. It's an incredible, informational, and eye-opening site. I purchased a tshirt from there awhile back and I'm considering buying some more items, too. They offer numerous ways to help spread the word--to help educate--about the evils of abortion. This video is just one way they do that. Please check it out, share it--whatever. Let's just spread the message!

My New Job

Last week I decided I would start a "new job".

For most of my married life (okay, all of it), I haven't been the greatest at housekeeping. I hate to admit it, but it's true. I would get in these moods where I'd clean like crazy and then go right back to being "blah" about it all. It's hard working a full day and then coming home and feeling motivated to clean...at least for me it was. So, when I was blessed to be able to stay at home, I was so excited! I knew I'd have more time and energy to devote to making our house a home.

...and then the TV got in the way, oh, and the computer...and whatever else that was non-housework related. Not to mention the fact that I have a sweet little boy to take care of. I would justify my laziness by telling myself, "Oh, I deserve this down time...I'll do better tomorrow" Yes, it is good to have down time. But not when it's everyday! haha

Needless to say, the Lord began convicting me. And then *mysteriously* everything I read for a couple of weeks would somehow always include Proverbs 31:27, which says, "She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness." Ouch.

I had to realize that God had given me an incredible opportunity--one which I didn't think would be possbile--to stay home with my son. It wasn't given to me so that I could sit around and watch TV, read, or play with my son all day. None of those things are bad, especially playing with my son, but when I let the house go, and my husband comes home stressed out from a long day at work only to find that I've been playing all day, it doesn't look good. Because it's not.

"He is the happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home" Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I want our home to be a haven for my husband to come home to. And it can't be if it's disorderly. So, I said allll that to say this: My "new job" is that I put myself on a cleaning schedule so that I know for sure what is expected of me during the week; I know that everything (or almost everything) gets done that needs to get done. I remember my mom having a schedule when we were younger and our home always seemed so comfy, cozy, and clean. It was a peaceful place to be.

God gave me my dream job, and up until last week, I'd been taking advantage of it. I decided I should start treating my position as the career that it is!

"Housekeeping is a profession, - The first thing to be done in order to better this state of affairs is to realise that household management is a serious profession, and that, like all apprentices, the woman who means to keep house must serve her time and give her energy to learning her profession." -How To Keep House
Recently, I checked out a book at the library called, "Home Comforts : The Art and Science of Keeping House" by Cheryl Mendelson. There's soo much to learn (it's a really thick book!), but I've enjoyed it so far. I love reading books about homemaking. They're inspiring. Proverbs 31 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. I'm telling ya what; that woman was amazing!

Here's my schedule:

Monday: Laundry/Ironing
Tuesday: Dusting/Vacuuming/Visiting my Grandma/Menu & grocery planning
Wednesday: Heavy Duty Cleaning
Thursday: Grocery Shopping/Errands
Friday: Paperwork/Organizing/Visiting my Grandma (Fri., Sat., or Sun.)
Saturday: Light Cleaning
Sunday: Day of rest! Yay!

(I usually end up doing light laundry another day during the week--especially since Ethan is so talented at keeping his hamper full!)

Thankfully, the schedule has worked quite well. It may change later on, but so far I'm liking my new job!

My prayer is that I can keep this up! I'm good at starting things--but it takes serious discipline and determination to finish them.

Do you have a cleaning schedule? If so, what's yours like?
